Why ChatGPT doesn't sound like you, even with your scripts
Why ChatGPT scripts sound wrong when you read them aloud, even with your old scripts as examples, and how to keep your phrasing and preferences in Veri.
On this page
ChatGPT doesn’t sound like you because a prompt like “be conversational” and a folder of old scripts don’t explain the choices behind your voice: what you assume the viewer knows, which detail you lead with, and when you stop explaining. It needs the reasons behind your edits, and somewhere to keep them for the next script.
A script can read well and still sound nothing like you. You say the first line out loud and start changing it, and by the end you have rewritten most of the draft.
Veri is a Creator Co-Pilot powered by a model you own. We built it around your own content because those choices show up in the videos and posts you make. You can ask for help writing the next one, correct a draft in chat, and keep preferences about your voice in Your Model, so you spend less time explaining the same things about yourself.
Explain why you changed that line.
Imagine a gaming update adds an item that is unusually easy to earn for one evening. A generic opening might say:
The latest update brings an exciting new item that could change the way you play. In this video, we’ll cover everything you need to know.
If your viewers know the game, you might start here:
You’ve got tonight to get this. After that, the item stays in the game, but the easy way to earn it is gone.
The second opening leads with the deadline because that is what matters to someone watching today. Adding “exciting” does not make the first opening more useful.
Explain the edit: “My viewers know what the item does. Start with how long they have to get it.” Now you have given the writer a reason for the change, which is more useful than asking it to sound less like AI.
Which video should you use as a writing reference?
Use a script from the same kind of video you want to make, and choose one you would still be happy to record. You probably speak differently in a sponsorship read, a quick update, and a longer personal story.
Point out where you get to the point, where you leave room for a joke, and how you end. A few observations about an actual video give the writer more to follow than a page of instructions.
Keep the new video’s facts separate from that example. If you are borrowing the rhythm of an old review, you do not want its product claims appearing in the new one.
ChatGPT’s Projects can keep files and instructions together. If you have a setup that works, keep using it. Custom GPTs are scheduled to retire on December 11, 2026, so if you are deciding between one and a model trained on your content, our Custom GPT vs personal model guide compares what each lets you keep. Veri is worth trying when you want your connected channel and writing preferences alongside the script, thumbnail, and other things you make for a video.
Give the correction you actually mean.
You know when a line sounds wrong, even if you would never describe yourself as a writer, so say what you would say to someone helping with the script.
| What feels wrong | A useful correction |
|---|---|
| It spends too long introducing the topic | “They know the game. Tell them what changed.” |
| It softens the opinion you wanted to argue | “I think this is bad for casual players. Keep that point.” |
| It keeps adding jokes | “Keep the joke at the start. Let the explanation be straight.” |
| It adds an ending you would never use | “End after the result. I don’t ask a question here.” |
In Veri, you can make those changes in chat as you write. When a preference should apply beyond this video, save it and check it in Your Model. You can also correct what Veri has understood about your voice there.
Which preferences are worth saving?
Save the ones that keep coming up: the kind of opening you dislike, the way you explain something, or the words you would never use. That way you get help writing more often without every video starting to sound the same, and you can check and change those preferences in Your Model as your style develops.
A saved preference gives your agent a reference for later writing, but you should still read every draft.
Start with an opening you need this week.
- Connect your channel.
- Bring the idea and facts for your next video.
- Ask Script for the opening.
- Read it aloud.
- Change the line you would not say, and explain why.
- Continue the draft you like.
Your saved script stays in Library. The Script docs take the opening through to a full draft. Building your personal model is a separate opt-in choice, described in the Privacy policy, so you can begin with the writing task today.

Frequently asked questions
Why doesn't ChatGPT sound like me even when I give it my scripts?
Old scripts show your wording without explaining the choices behind it, such as what you assume the viewer knows, which detail you lead with and when you stop explaining. Telling the writer why you changed a line gives it more to follow than asking it to sound less like AI.
Which script should I give AI as a writing reference?
Choose a script from the same kind of video you want to make, one you would still be happy to record. Keep the new video's facts separate so the old video's claims don't carry over.
How do I correct an AI script so it sounds like me?
Say what you would say to someone helping with the script, such as telling it your viewers know the game and to start with what changed. Give the reason for the edit as well as the edit itself.
Can Veri remember my writing preferences?
Yes, you can save preferences about your voice in Your Model and check or change them as your style develops. Saving preferences is separate from opting into personal-model training.
